How To Clean A Plastic Intake Manifold

  1. As titles.

    Has anyone got any tips for cleaning out one of these properly?

    Its coked up with that sticky, black, diesel crap that EGR Valves are responsible for.

    Im sure its doing the mpg and performance no good at all in this instance.

    Anyone any experience of what im on about?

  3. No, its going to have to be removed.... lol.

    Such a weird and complicated design I will be going to the shops to get an assortment of odd shaped brushes to try and get into each long entrance "tunnel".

  5. I used carb cleaner AND gunk on my intake bits when I did the turbo swap on the 330d.

    Brought them up a treat.

  6. I find the most potent mix is Gunk, petrol & washing up liquid, I should market it....
  7. Cool, I have a big spray can of that gunk stuff somewhere, and petrol is no problem!

    Tri mix here we come.

    I jsut wonder how long I will need to soak it for, to break the stuff down.

  8. Bottle brush (used for wine and beer making) and carb cleaner.

    Bottle Brushes are flexible and will go around any bend pretty much.

  9. When I cleaned my old RS Turbo (that had popped its oil filter off & made a mess of the engine bay) I left the mix a good hour and then jet washed it all off.

    She came up like new. :)

    If you do use petrol in the mix, make sure the battery is disconnected and anything that could be hot is cold!!!!

    And no one worry! Its an off the car job, I might even put it through the dishwasher at the end to make sure its 100% like new.. or as close to as I can get it.

  11. leave it soaking in coca-cola over night then attack with a hefty brush.
  12. carb cleaner and some thiners and a bottle brush . did mine when i blanked the egr .. came up spanking but had to replace the gaskets (mondeo)
  13. Wine making shops, cooking shops, ebay and google :)
